Apprenticeship General Knowledge Testing

Upon submitting a complete application, each applicant is given an authorization to test letter and directed to a Wisconsin Technical College for general knowledge testing. The Technical College then forwards the test results to the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Apprenticeship Interview

Applicants that meet the apprenticeship testing requirements will be notified by mail and scheduled for an interview before the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Southeast Wisconsin Jurisdiction - Candidate Waiting List

Ranked Candidate Waiting List. The apprenticeship general knowledge test scores from the Technical College are combined with the Committee interview scores.  The total score from testing and interview is used to place each applicant onto the Steamfitter or Refrigeration Candidate Waiting List with other apprenticeship candidates.

As positions become available for candidates, the Joint Apprenticeship Committee will contact the number one candidate on the Steamfitter or Refrigeration Candidate Waiting List as needed. Candidates on the waiting list are required to notify the Committee in writing annually of their continued interest in the apprenticeship program and wish to remain on the waiting list.

Madison Jurisdiction - Candidate Letter of Introduction

Non-Ranked Candidate Pool List. Candidates are given a Letter of Introduction and a list of union contractors in the jurisdiction to contact for employment and sponsorship in the apprenticeship program. Applicants are required to notify the Committee in writing of their continued interest once a year prior to their Letter of Introduction expiring.

Address/Phone Change Notification Required

Written notification of changes to address and/or phone number is required.

Apprenticeship Contract Terms

Although numerous standards dictate the terms of the Apprenticeship Contract, generally a candidate will serve a term as a pre-apprentice prior to being indentured.  Once indentured, the apprenticeship encompasses no less that five (5) years calendar time, 9,326 hours
On-the-Job Training and approximately 1,000 hours of classroom instruction in both day and night school training.  Training hours fluctuate with the needs of the industry.
